Krishna Kamod Rice is Gujarat's celebrated aromatic heritage rice, popularly known as the "Basmati of Gujarat". It is valued for its fragrance, flavour and deep connection with traditional Gujarati food culture.
The rice is named from two words: Krishna, referring to the darker husk colour traditionally associated with Lord Krishna, and Kamod, referring to its natural fragrance. It remains an important heritage grain despite competition from modern hybrids.
Because Krishna Kamod commands a premium price, imitation varieties may appear in the market. Experienced buyers often identify genuine rice through its aroma and cooking behaviour.
